Eyelid Treatment with Fraxel Re:store™ Laser

Periorbital photodamage and rhytids are commonly treated with lasers, but can present unique challenges to clinicians. Effective treatment of these dermatological conditions requires not only knowledge of this region’s unique anatomical features, but also warrants additional safety precautions. In the webinar that you are about to view, we have asked two experts in the field of ophthalmic plastic surgery to present their best practices.

Reliant Technologies advises that clinicians use and provide patients with appropriate eye protection for prevention of injury to the cornea, sclera and ocular soft tissue. External eye protection should be worn by clinicians performing Fraxel treatments and should be provided to patients receiving non-periorbital Fraxel treatments. For patients receiving periorbital Fraxel treatments, to provide more comprehensive protection, Reliant currently recommends use of corneal shields. Clinicians should only approach periorbital treatment if they are comfortable with their ability to provide adequate ocular protection to their patients.

Dr. Howard Conn described an alternate treatment approach, which did not include use of corneal shields. It is important to note that Dr. Conn presented his technique for the treatment of the full face including the periorbital region, but was not treating the tissue over the tarsus or directly over the globe of the eye. It is ultimately the responsibility of each clinician to select protective measures which provide maximal safety and are tailored to the Fraxel treatments they perform.
